Biografia
Paolo Rossi is a self-taught drummer, composer and singer born in Como (Italy) on the 25th October 1981. Throughout his childhood, during the 80s and early 90s, he has been listening to a huge variety of genres, from mainstream pop to rock.
Thanks to his father’s vinyl collection he gets in touch with classical music as well, with Mozart and Cajkovskij being his favorites. He starts playing the piano by ear but
the real breakthrough happens in 1996: after watching Queen’s “Live a Wembley”, he builds his own drum kit, made of boxes, tins and cans, and starts playing drums. In 1998 he eventually buys his first professional drum kit and forms his first band, composing, right from the beginning, original songs. Meanwhile, he expands his musical exploration, listening to both contemporary (Smashing Pumpinks, Massive Attack, Oasis, Green Day, Verve), and past (Clash, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, David Bowie, John Lennon and psychedelic rock) bands or solo artists. In the late 90s he joins an irreverent punk-band mixing different genres like Punk, Ska, Reggae moving forward to New Wave and Dark, getting to know artists such as
Cure, Smiths, Radiohead, Sister of Mercy and Depeche Mode. From 2003 to 2008 he takes a hiatus from bands and live performances, focusing mainly on instrumental music and movie scores.
He gets back on the road from 2009 to 2013 touring Europe with different bands and releasing two EPs, one LP and a live album. He definitely starts off his solo career in 2013, working with three theatre groups as composer (CUT, Petit Soleil and Teatro degli Sterpi, the last one being set up by Paolo himself along with longtime soul sister Valentina Milan) and releasing three soundtracks albums from three different shows (‘Marat/Sade’ by Peter Weiss, ‘I Giganti della Montagna’ by Luigi Pirandello and ‘Faust’ by Fernando Pessoa), plus many other
compositions from other productions. In April 2018 he released his debut solo album ‘Dark Exits’.
